Yuki Tanaka

I grew up in Tokyo, surrounded by concrete and convenience. My first real mountain experience came during a university trip to the Japanese Alps, and something clicked. The simplicity of life on the trail—one foot in front of the other, the weight of your pack, the reward of a summit view—it felt more real than anything I'd experienced in the city.

Since then, I've trekked through the Himalayas, the Andes, the Alps, and dozens of mountain ranges in between. But what keeps me coming back isn't the peaks themselves—it's the communities that live in these remote places. The Sherpa villages of Nepal, the Quechua communities of Peru, the shepherds in the high Pyrenees. Their resilience, their connection to the land, their generosity toward strangers—these are the stories I want to tell.

I'm a certified wilderness guide and avalanche safety instructor. When I'm not on a trail, I'm probably planning my next one.
